Lories are a specialized bird requiring a specialized diet. Their tongue is used to collect pollen and nectar, which is thier primary diet. However, lories are known to eat many other things in the wild such as insects. In fact, the Goldie's lorikeets can and do eat seed.
Birdie Tip: Lories are necessarily more messy than other birds. It is all dependent on what they are fed. We encourage weaning them onto a dry pellet and dry nectar which are always available in the cage. Then you can supplement with treats such as wet nectar, fresh fruits and vegetables and fruit juice. By maintaining and primarily dry diet, lories have similar poop to other parrots.
Bird Brain Information:Lorikeets are smaller and have a shorter tail than their cousins the lories.
